Okay, so I never got the chance to post again before I left for my holiday but the important thing is that I’m back now. I struggled for the past few days with “holiday blues” and comfort ate in an attempt to fill a void but I’m ready to get back to it with my first Slimming World weigh-in tonight for over 2 weeks… Yikes.

But let’s not dwell on that just now. What will be will be. Did I enjoy my holiday and indulge? Yes. Did I feel guilty for it? Hell no! And that’s how it’s supposed to be on holiday, especially after successfully completing four years of an intense degree alongside working part-time! I also felt amazing having lost a good bit of weight leading up to this holiday. I think that made a huge difference and I am so glad that I decided to join Slimming World just over four months ago. Remember that phrase? One year from now you’ll wish you had started today. Yeah. That.

I actually haven’t weighed myself since I got back. All I know is that I unofficially lost another few pounds just prior to my holiday, weighing on my home scales at about 12 stone 3 pounds. I already know that the main culprits were bread (I ate so much bread) and cocktails (I may have also had a lot of cocktails). Graduation is just over a week away however, so it’s time to get my head back in the game. SO NO MORE COCKTAILS (damnit).

Interestingly enough, a photo surfaced on Facebook recently which was taken in March, just a few weeks after I started Slimming World. I couldn’t get over the difference and it really gave me the kick up the arse that I needed to snap out of my “holiday blues”! Here’s me back in March (nearly a stone and a half heavier) compared to what I look like now:

I want to keep my cheekbones this time and I’m not going back to that, so here’s to moving forward! Wish me luck at my post-holiday weigh-in 😉

Still on Track

I haven’t posted in over two weeks! How did I manage that?!

I promise I haven’t fallen off the wagon, as my results will show. It’s just that these past few weeks have been a total whirlwind as my university degree finally came to an end. Needless to say, there were celebrations this weekend yet somehow I still managed to lose 2.5 pounds this week! Yippee! Here’s my overall results since my last post:

Current weight: 12 stone 5.5 pounds

Weight loss (past 3 weeks): 4 pounds

Total weight loss so far: 1 stone 5.5 pounds (19.5 pounds)

Seriously though, I don’t know how I got away with that after consuming a whole bottle of Moscato wine (so sweet, but so deadly) which ultimately led me to make bad food choices as I stumbled home later that night. I stuck to the plan for the rest of the week though and I think that made all the difference. Okay, so there was a decent amount of dancing to 80’s and 90’s tunes which may have also helped…  Anyway, here’s me before the Moscato:

Just over a month ago, I didn’t feel comfortable wearing this dress.

I have also finally received my “Club 10 Award” which means I’ve lost 10% of my overall body weight. Apparently this has a lot of really great health benefits which I could go on about for days… But I’ll let you go away and look that up for yourself, if you’re interested. Needless to say, I’m feeling pretty good.

I’ve now got exactly 3 weeks until I go on my holiday to Croatia so my next goal is to get below 12 stone by then. It’s certainly achievable and I am determined to try!

Until next week 🙂

Double Chin, Be Gone!

I know… This post is very late. It was just another very busy week and had nothing to do with the fact that I had no idea how to follow my previous post… Okay fine, that had something to do with it. Who knew you’d all enjoy my small triumphs and embarrassing stories so much? Really though, I am so grateful for your support as always.

Current weight: 12 stone 9.5

Weight loss this week: 1.5 pounds

Total weight loss so far: 1 stone 1.5 pounds (15.5 pounds)

I couldn’t think of any stories to top the “star wars pants scenario” and whilst I continue to impersonate a bright pink octopus on a twice-weekly basis, you guys don’t need to hear about that every time. That being said, how do people manage to get out of the water so gracefully? I always try to use the ladder whenever I can and even that is quite the effort when your arms and legs feel like jelly. The pool was pretty busy one evening this week so I had no option but to haul myself out, flopping onto the ground like a seal. A bright pink seal. I probably sounded like one too because I was so out of breath. Fantastic.

So apart from my increasingly varied portrayals of water species and consistent weight-loss, nothing particularly blog-worthy happened this week. So I decided to take some comparison photos and that’s where things got interesting:

Yep. I’m feeling pretty good about that. What a difference a stone makes and good riddance to that double chin! I can’t wait to compare in a few more months…

Until next week! 🙂

Loose Jeans

It’s going to be another short post from me this week but I’m so glad to finally say that I got my stone award!

Current weight: 12 stone 11 pounds

Weight loss this week: 1.5 pounds

Total weight loss so far: 1 stone!

It’s been a really positive week and I’m definitely starting to feel and see the benefits. I even built up the courage to try on my old, smaller pair of jeans today and they fit, meaning I’m down a whole size! Here’s a photo of me looking all happy about it:

Just as well, because my current jeans have been falling down, especially when going up the stairs in my building which gets pretty embarrassing when I’m carrying a load of shopping bags and can’t do anything about it. There’s nothing worse than getting to the top and realising just how far they’ve fallen down, leaving you wondering how much of your Star Wars pants the guy living two floors below really saw… Awkward.

I also went swimming for the first time in years on Monday and am definitely planning to keep that up at least twice a week from now on. I may have overdone it slightly with a steady 40 minute session (50m lane) which is something I didn’t actually realise until I got out of the pool. My arms and legs were like jelly and my face was reminiscent of a beetroot which was probably pretty amusing for everyone else as I tried to walk as normally as possible to the showers. I loved it though – the swimming, obviously, not my potentially convincing portrayal of a bright pink octopus attempting to walk on land.

So there we have it! I’m officially a quarter of the way through my long-term goal after just over two months and am so determined to continue steadily losing each week. I’m hoping that the swimming gives me a bit of a boost and I’ve also decided to aim to lose at least another 4 pounds by the end of this month, taking me down to 12.5 stone. Let’s see how it goes!

Until next week 🙂

Finding Success in Unlikely Places

I’ve had my first (albeit minor) gain during this Slimming World journey. I knew it was coming after weighing myself on my home scales this week but I still felt pretty rubbish and actually seriously considered not going to my formal weigh-in on Tuesday night… But I did it AND I made sure I had a Slimming World lasagne cooked and ready for me when I got home.

I’m not sure what caused a gain this week and I was particularly gutted because I actually felt that this had been the best week I’ve had in a while. Hopefully it’s just a natural part of the process but I’m certainly being a bit more careful at the moment and have made a few modifications regarding my syns!

Current weight: 12 stone 12.5

Weight loss this week: gained 1/2 a pound

Total weight loss so far: 12.5 pounds

I also realised that this has still been an extremely successful week due to the fact that I attended my formal weigh-in despite knowing I had gained weight. The weather was pretty cold and miserable on Tuesday (seriously, it was snowing) and I could have easily stayed in and ordered a takeaway instead, but I didn’t – so I’m feeling pretty proud of myself about that.

There’s no point in dwelling on it any more however and I have already noticed a positive change on my home scales so we will see how things go next week!

As mentioned, I tried the Slimming World lasagne recipe which turned out to be fantastic! I was in need of some delicious comfort food to combat the miserable weather and it totally satisfied those cravings. It was very quick and easy to make – I also used Quorn mince, which made things even easier.

I also discovered the wonders of Muller Light and realised that the majority of their products are free on Slimming World which means I can have as much as I like! My most favourite flavour at the moment is their limited edition coconut and lime – it’s so good!

I’ll keep going and am still feeling very positive about everything. I am on placement at the moment however – hence why this post was a bit late – but I will do my best to keep you all updated! Again, please get in touch if you have any recipe recommendations.

Until next time 🙂

Another Pound Bites the Dust

I’m 7 weeks into this Slimming World journey and am now just one pound away from losing a whole stone!!

Current weight: 12 stone 11

Weight loss this week: 1 pound

Total weight loss so far: 13 pounds

I wasn’t sure how this week would turn out after having a bit more time off, celebrating the completion of our final uni assessment and also the fact that it was the Easter holidays. So much enticing chocolate on sale at the moment… I resisted however! I allowed myself one creme egg but otherwise treated myself to Easter-themed bath bombs from Lush instead. It was nice not to feel bloated and guilty for once, just pampered and refreshed!

I also finally got round to trying the Slimming World Diet Cola Chicken. A lot of people have raved about this recipe and I can see why! It was fairly quick and easy to make and so tasty – I’ll definitely be making it again soon. Thanks to Jenny for recommending it this week!

SW Diet Cola Chicken

So small goals for the next few weeks include losing another pound this week to get that stone award, losing 2 more pounds over the next 2 weeks to get my Club 10 award (meaning I’ll have lost 10% of my body weight) and to lose a total of 5 pounds in the next month to get myself down to 12 and a half stone. I’ve also got to try a new recipe! I’m thinking lasagna or a roast… Which one should I choose?!

I’m really happy that I’ve managed to lose weight every week so far and hoping I’m able to continue. At the moment, it feels like I can do anything and I am so humbled by all of the support and kind messages I’ve been receiving from everyone since I started this back up again! So, thank you! It really keeps me motivated 🙂

Until next week!

13 Stone No More

It was a bit of a stressful week as I worked towards my final university assessment just 11 days after our dissertation hand-in. I spent the majority of my time living in the library and I thought it was going to be tough to manage Slimming World on top of that, but it really wasn’t! And I have the results to prove it:

Current weight: 12 stone 13 pounds

Total weight loss this week: 2.5 pounds

Total weight loss so far: 12 pounds

I am absolutely delighted and so pleased to finally kiss goodbye to that 13 stone marker! Also just 2 pounds away from losing a whole stone… Feeling great.

I have never been able to lose weight over an assessment period before and yet I’ve achieved it with ease whilst writing a dissertation AND completing a final assessment. Phew!

Here’s photo evidence of me feeling good before heading in for my presentation yesterday, because, why not:

There wasn’t much to it and I’m actually still quite surprised to have managed it considering the food that I ate. A big batch of SW macaroni cheese, baked potatoes with tuna, Alpen Light bars, omelettes, salads and fruit got me through a tough week. I suppose it seemed like a lot of food at the time but but the choices were much smarter than my usual assessment period diet of croissants, pre-packaged sandwiches, chocolate, crisps and pizza/lasagne.

I didn’t have time to try a new SW recipe this week but I’ll try to get back into that next week. I’m also hoping to incorporate more exercise into my daily life so we’ll hopefully see how that will make an impact.

Until next week! 🙂

Every Loss is a Win

I just realised I didn’t write a post last week! Well for those of you who aren’t connected with me on Facebook, I lost another 2.5 pounds last Tuesday and finally got my half a stone award after 4 weeks! Yay!

I wasn’t as successful this week but a loss is still a loss:

Current weight: 13 stone 1.5 pounds

Total weight loss this week: 1/2 a pound

Total weight loss so far (after 5 weeks): 9.5 pounds

I was actually quite pleasantly surprised because I had a few too many cocktails last Friday to celebrate the completion of my dissertation. I didn’t even feel guilty because we totally deserved it; however, I wasn’t as strict as I could have been for the remainder of the week to make up for it. Don’t get me wrong, I completely stuck to the plan every day apart from Friday, but I could have been better. So any loss is a win really! Especially when I ate a lot of pasta and potatoes (all free – but seriously, how did I lose any weight at all?!).

That being said, it’s time to really push myself to get below the 13 stone mark. I’m SO close! I can hardly remember the last time I weighed under 13 stone but it does feel like it’s going to be a little tougher to get there because it’s a weight that my body is used to… but it’s happening! Let’s see if I can get a 12 on the scales next week and kiss goodbye to number 13 for good…

I’m also thinking about trying a new Slimming World recipe every week to keep things interesting. This week, I decided to try their Sweet and Sour Chicken recipe served with brown rice and plenty of steamed vegetables. I have to say, it was delicious. Even Joe liked it, so you know it’s a winner.

SW Sweet and Sour Chicken – delicious and completely syn free.

Feel free to get in touch if you have any recipe recommendations!

Until next time 🙂

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

It’s going to be a short post from me again but it’s been another good week!

Current weight: 13 stone 4.5 pounds

Weight loss this week: 1.5 pounds

Total weight loss so far: 6.5 pounds

I am SO close to officially losing half a stone and that’s only after 3 weeks!

I was actually feeling a little disappointed with the result initially because I was looking at a potential loss of 3 pounds the day before; however, I’ve since realised that any loss is an extremely positive result and should be very happy, which I am!

I think I need to remember that my main goal is to lose 1-2 pounds a week and so far I am smashing that goal right out of the park. I am totally on track and cannot get upset if I don’t get a huge weight loss each week because that would be unrealistic and would just set me up to fail. Slow and steady wins the race!

I’m now just very determined to get that half a stone award next week and I’ve also set a small goal to get below the 13 stone mark in 3 weeks. I never want to see “13 stone” on my scales ever again after this!

Slimming the Stress Away

Dissertation stress is ramping up as the deadline draws nearer so it’s going to be a short post from me this week. That being said, I have stuck to the plan 100% and I’ve found that so easy to do. Simple AND successful. It’s been another good week…

Current weight: 13 stone 6 pounds

This week’s weight loss: 2.5 pounds

Total weight loss so far (since starting SW 2 weeks ago): 5 pounds

I tried a couple more Slimming World recipes this week which were very successful. On Friday I had some serious craving for some comfort food so I tried the SW Deluxe Macaroni Cheese which only amounted to 4 syns per portion (if using skimmed milk as a Healthy Extra A option). It turned out brilliantly and completely satisfied my cravings.

Deluxe Macaroni with leeks, mushrooms and sun-dried tomato.

I’ve also discovered M&S Count On Us chocolate mousse pots and Rowan Glen low fat toffee yogurt which are both around 4 syns so they’ve proved to be excellent treats at night if I’ve used up more syns during the day.

Another thing I’ve really noticed this week is how much more enjoyment I’m getting out of cooking and preparing meals. I’m putting that little bit more time aside in the evenings for this, ramping up the tunes and having a dance around the kitchen which has proved to be an excellent form of stress relief! Feeling good all round! See you next week.
